Paediatric dentistry, or pedodontics, is that branch of dentistry that deals with the care and maintenance of the children's oral health.
In City Life Institute we follow a psycho-aptitude approach, which pays close attention to the specific needs of the paediatric age. Kids corner
We take great care to welcome children in a space dedicated to them, where they feel protected, like at home. That is why, on paediatric examination days, we set up a kids corner with a colourful table and animal-shaped seats. Here, young patients can play and colour while waiting.
Positive reinforcement
To help children experience a’positive experience during their stay in the dental office, we apply so-called “positive reinforcement”. This involves the giving of small rewards or gadgets at the end of dental treatment.

We have inhalation conscious sedation
If the dentist's session creates anxiety and agitation in the patient, we can resort to inhalation conscious sedation: quick, non-invasive and suitable for all ages, it guarantees total relaxation in a few minutes while remaining alert at all times.
Dental treatments for children
Hygiene, sealing and fluoroprophylaxis
All children are placed in customised prevention paths based on eating habits and the state of the teeth. During the hygiene check-ups, in addition to thoroughly cleaning the teeth, we teach them how to use the toothbrush correctly, actively involving the parents as well.
In the absence of caries, we seal the teeth most at risk. Afterwards, we start the fluoroprophylaxis, to prevent the occurrence of caries and protect the entire dentition.
Caries treatment by SCTR
The application of the selective carious tissue removal (SCTR), allows carious cavities to be treated in a highly conservative manner in order to avoid unnecessary devitalisation. If it is necessary to extract the element, we apply small spacers that keep the space intact until the final tooth has emerged.
This procedure serves to safeguard the baby teeth because their premature loss can lead to alterations in the arches that could affect the final dentition.
Frenulectomies with laser
Frenulectomy is a quick and painless operation involving the’use of the laser. It consists of the removal of small bands of labial or lingual tissue, and is necessary if limitations to lip or tongue movement appear, affecting speech or correct tooth alignment.
Thanks to the laser reduces bleeding, reduces pain and recovery time is facilitated, so that children can cope with the surgery without any trauma.
Dental Appliances and Sports Dentistry
Acting in paediatric age on jaw changes and vicious habits prevents the onset of various occlusal problems.
Apply transparent aligners,functional appliances, palatal expanders and elastodontic bioactivators, allows the natural biological and muscular forces to be harnessed for the harmonious development of the facial arches and structures. This avoids more invasive and costly treatment in adulthood.
We also recommend the design of individual sports mouthguards as prevention, trauma protection and optimisation of the performances sports.
